If you are traveling, this is a great short story book to carry with you in your briefcase or purse. Written by India's best loved author - Ruskin Bond, 'The Night Train At Deoli' and Other Stories, is a fascinating book written by a brilliantly absorbing mind, sketching India's beauty with his words whilst offering picturesque and affectionate accounts of people who, consciously or otherwise need each other; people in love or in need of love, the awkward adolescent and the timid lover. The book also silently mourns the gradually diminishing beauty of the hills of India (and the gentle people living in them) being bogged down to demands of the concrete world.

In this book, Ruskin Bond tells us the beautiful stories of the hills, memories, innocent love stories, going back to the roots, nature and other little but effective things. Each story is one of a kind and makes us think for a long time about the way it is told.
Ruskin Bond gives importance to preserving the nature and its inhabitants and uses this book to convey his message. He stresses about showing respect to the elders with few of the stories in this book. The stories in this book make us long for the childhood in our lives to experience them once again. The outdoor activities with friends, the simple times of early adolescence.
In “The Night Train at Deoli” story, the author tells about a boy who travels in a train and meets a girl who sells baskets in a station. Every time the boy passes across the station, he sees the girl and develops an affection towards her. He longs for the journey only because he hopes to see the girl again.
In “The Leopard”, we come to know about the evil intentions of men who want to destroy everything in nature. The author puts a strong message that the animals do not trust humans because the humans are greedy.
There are many stories which show the love of hills by the author. He constantly says that once you have lived with the mountains for any length of time, you belong to them, and must return again and again.
The book is a must-read for anyone who loves reading about nature and want to relive the earlier times. The stories are fast paced and when you finish reading the book, you will start craving more.
