When it comes to romance, some men just can't get a break. Back in his wilder days, Lord Somerton fell madly in love with Lola, the most infamous dancer of the Paris cabarets, but though he was ready to defy his family, society, and all the world to marry her, she turned him down flat and broke his heart. Six years later, he's a much more sensible chap, and he's looking to make a sensible marriage. Which is, of course, just when Lola decides to come back, and the reason for her return threatens to wreck his life (and possibly his heart) all over again.

This was a perfectly fine, albeit slightly boring, historical romance for me. Although it was a second chance romance, I wasn't feeling the romance between Lola and Denys. All of a sudden he decides he should be nice, which maybe because at this point I was skimming, I missed why, and then he takes her into a closet at an opera show and asks her the real reason why she left. When I felt there was no hint as to why the reason she left was not the real reason. She spilled everything, and he takes her at her word. I just couldn't handle anymore.
