I love how this book demonstrates (in an extreme way) how society treats children with cognitive and/or physical impairments. I loved the relationship between Lillian and the twins and how she was determined to meet them at their level and protect them. I also loved Mary and Carl. This book definitely reads quickly and is one I will probably read again and again.
However:
There's something about a man writing a story about closeted lgbt+ women that just makes me really uncomfortable. It easily shifts into erotica fantasy territory that is just not great. It didn't add to the story and it's incredibly frustrating because I thoroughly enjoyed this book otherwise. “Are we going to make out, or what?” written twice in the book.
