Such a beautiful, magical book! I haven't read a book like this in such a long time (actually since I've read Harry Potter - it's quite similar, but it's so different at the same time).

This book is about a boy, Nova, who discovers that nothing is as it seems, that the leaders of the realm have been lying to the citizens of Dacaan. They said that magic was evil, that it shouldn't be considered good, that people should fear it. But what Nova discovers says otherwhise.

His story is one full of magic, of unexpected things, of making friends and learning how to control his powers, of betrayal and growth. Nova is a strong kid, he doesn't back down in front of a challenge, not even one as great as saving the world from the “Regime” - that's how the leaders of Dacaan like to call themselves - they're the ones who control everything and make people submit to their wishes.

Nova's destiny is to make the world a better place and to make people believe in magic again. To take down the Regime and to release the citizens of Dacaan from their claws. This book was the first step in Nova's journey and I cannot wait to read more! I absolutely loved the world-building, the magic system and the characters - there are some great magical beings that become Nova's closest friends throughout the book!

“We are born incomplete with a yearning to make ourselves whole. Following our destiny is what slowly completes us. We make choices in life, whether we like it or not, and they take us on a path toward completing our destiny.”
