Hardships on the frontier don't stop when someone dies... Murder, tragedy, and redemption...
This was an amazing story! I truly enjoyed the book! This is not your typical frontier story but one with added layers and a touch of forgiveness as well! Put this on your to read list now! Spend some time on the Wyoming wilderness, and survive the storm that is fast approaching...
Long But Beautiful. This is an incredibly detailed story of loss and love set in the Old West, and while the basic premise has been told many times in many settings, Hawker does an excellent job of highlighting a side to it not often shown. While the tale could have arguably been told with less specific details and at least 100-150 fewer pages, Hawker uses the extra detailing well - in service to the story rather than detracting from it. I know, it is approaching end of year and if you're concerned about the number of books you've read this year, 500 pages is daunting. Trust me, you're going to want to read this one anyway. ;) Very much recommended.
A lot of flowery prose that I found myself skipping over and could have been left out. But I still enjoyed the story and Beulah as the main character was absolutely fascinating. I almost wish the story was only told from Clyde and Beilah's POVs.
Wasn't really sure how the 2 opposing characters would be able to come together after the whole I slept with your husband and then my husband killed him sorry about that situation but it felt like a natural progression. Obviously forced but the wild west will do that to you I suppose. I do really wish we would have gotten more from this story. Like it felt like it just kind of ended. I hope there will be a sequel but I doubt that we will get one.
