Waited pretty eagerly for this one, but liked it less than I hoped. Solid and carries, generally, the welcome hallmarks of a Tropper book – and it's nice to see him writing about someone who isn't a writer – but much depressing to read than previous outings.
I've only read one other work by Tropper, [b:This Is Where I Leave You 6224935 This Is Where I Leave You Jonathan Tropper http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1336344327s/6224935.jpg 6405647], and so far I've got to say that I love Tropper's style of writing – very real and effortless. His story lines are honest and relatable. And he always manages to infuse a bit of humor into every situation. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of his work.
Not my favorite of Tropper's, but filled with the same great writing and heart that makes all his books enjoyable and a sure book to read again and again.
Tropper is absolutely the go-to guy these days for 21st century suburban Jewish neurotic male characters who manage to be hilarious and appealing despite their self-admitted flaws. Reminded me of the late, lamented “Men of a Certain Age” TV show at times. All of his novels read like screenplays and this one is no different - dialogue crackles with wit and sarcasm. Interesting attempt to write some female POV scenes - not sure if he has done this before and not sure if he quite carries it off, especially in his portrayal of a pregnant 18 year old who is a little too wise for her age, but a good attempt to flesh out the story. His books are such quick page-turning reads that it is a shame we have to wait a few years for the next one.
