The book 'Origin and Early History of the Muslims of Keralam, 700 to 1600 AD deals with the origin and growth of Muslim community in Keralam until the arrival of the Portuguese in the 16th century. It traces the origin of Muslims in Kerala on the basis of authentic records. The Muslim settlements had actually come into existence in Kerala from the ninth century only.
The book refutes the popular and scholarly theory that the Chera king, Cheraman Perumal converted to Islam and went to Mecca. It proves on the basis of adequate evidences that there was no such conversion. The only conversion that actually took place was the conversion of the prince of Kannur in the fourteenth century or before which has been noted by the Arab traveller Ibn Batuta. This seems to be the origin of the Muslim Arakkal family of Kannur;
The book also traces the encounter between the Portuguese and the Malabaris, both Hindu and Muslim during the 16th century which eventually led to the colonial subjugation of India. On the basis of adequate proofs it has been established that the Portuguese were guilty of unspeakable acts of barbarity during the sixteenth century, which undermined the authority of the Indian ruler(Zamorin) and his Mappilla allies.
