Maybe more like 4.5.
I really liked the focus on relationships and people. It is easy to say this happened and this happened and this happened. It is harder to face the idea that I did this and this is what happened to other people because of that. Or the opposite of that, they did that and this is what it did to me. But facing those things makes for a better story.
My only complaint is the epilogue. As this is non-fiction, it had to be written this way, but I didn't love the “what happened” feeling at the end. But that is a minor complaint.
If you are interested in a book about how history affects real people, you will like this book.
