Second-chance romances aren't my catnip, but I can appreciate them if they establish several things: why the MCs initially got together, why they broke apart, and why things will be different the second time around. The first two are challenging because usually they take place before the book even begins. P.S. I Spook You, unfortunately, fails at almost all of the requirements. Harmon never shows (or even tells) how/why Danny and Rain got together, and although we know why they split up I never got the sense that either MC had spent a lot of time pining for the other while they were apart. There is more of a case to be made their new relationship will be stronger than the first once Rain tells Danny about his special talent (and Danny believes him), but I never really felt the strong connection between them (other than great sex) so I didn't have a lot invested in the pairing.Other than that, I wasn't impressed with either the law enforcement or the paranormal aspects. There didn't seem to be a great deal of expertise or sophisticated practices for a cold case unit, and Rain's paranormal abilities didn't have a lot of consistency. Plus there's a TSTL moment that no self-respecting real police or FBI would have found himself in. Rain as a first-person narrator was entertaining, with just the right amount of snark, but I wasn't a big fan of hard-ass, grumpy Danny. I downloaded both this and its sequel [b:Principles of Spookology 49200184 Principles of Spookology (The Spectral Files, #2) S.E.
