Pure

I read the first book in this series at the beginning of December and fell in love with the world, the History and mainly the characters. Alex is a strong minded character who acts out of impulse and happens to be a) in love with sexy, caring Pure Aiden, and b) destined to become the second Apollyon and become a walking battery pack for Seth (the first Apollyon. The gods sent furies to eradicate any threat to the covenant, may that be the hordes of pure and half-blood daimons that are attacking all the covenants or Alex and Seth.

This book is faced paced and filled with action and mystery. You find out more and more about the world, the laws and history. This book left me crying multiple times and shouting at the characters while reading in bed.

Goodreads says: There is need. And then there is Fate... Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome–especially when Alexandria's “other half” is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom–so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do–and sacrifice–for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies–lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her. I am a huge fan of this series. I really love the characters. I think they are all well developed and consistent. This is the second/third book in the series and it is definitely more slow paced than the other reads. What I mean by slow paced is that we are not given the action packed punch from the word go we are usually used to in the books. It works because what you are given is more of an insight as to how Pure's think, what is important to them and how the recent events in the previous books has shaped their present.

Seth is in this book a lot more. We get a better feel for how he thinks but he still has this air of mystery that surrounds him. I honestly don't know whether to trust him fully. I feel as if he is not just all that we see.

Alex is still Alex and I adore her. She is still getting into a world of trouble and we'll see what else is in store for her. I often felt so sad for her because she seems to be so lonely. Being alone is such a horrible way to be and feel at such a young age.

Aiden... ugh Aiden! Well as frustrating as it is he is as noble as ever but so conflicted. The author does a great job at one point convincing me at least that he no longer wants anything to do with Alex. But then he wakes up next to her... So who knows...

This was not a boring read. I was definitely intrigued the entire time. It is full of emotions and full of new information that lead to more questions. All of it was great to me. I love that the author has incorporated so much of her own personality into Alex. Whether it was intentional or not I love this about the series. I really can't wait to read the next book and hope it gets here sooner than later!

helluva book to get through.

so JLA is back at it again with her self-insert Vampire Academy fanfiction, and i gotta say, Alex is even more annoying in this one than how she was in Half-Blood. i honestly cannot stand her childish attitude and decisions, and she's definitely moved way up in my personal rankings for worst protagonist of all time. as for aiden, he is a literal piece of cardboard (as are most other characters in this book tbh).

the only saving grace this book had for me was the dark romance perfection that is Seth. every scene he was not it was skimmed by the time i was halfway through the book, and his POV bonus chapter was the best part. he would be perfect with Alex if she wasn't such an overgrown toddler.

not sure if i'll read the next one or not, considering i know that seth and alex aren't endgame. i guess we'll have to wait and see.
