The Republic Fair is coming! Visitors from all over the galaxy are traveling to the planet Valo for a massive, awe-inspiring festival celebrating the Republic. While his fellow Valons prepare for the fair, Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram is hiding out in his favorite place: a dingy garage filled with mechanical parts and tools. But when a security alarm goes off on the nearby hilltop nicknamed Crashpoint Peak, he ventures out with his trusty droid V-18 to investigate. There he discovers that someone has knocked out Valo's communications tower—a frightening sign that Valo, and the Republic Fair, are in danger. Sure enough, as Ram races to warn the Jedi, the dreaded Nihil unleash a surprise attack! It's up to Ram to face down the enemy at Crashpoint Tower and send a call for help to the Republic. Luckily, he's about to get some assistance from unexpected new friends…

It was a pretty good book. The ending felt a lot more hopeful and positive that The Rising storm did. I like how it added a different perspective to certain scenes from The Rising Storm. I like seeing the characters from The High Republic comics show up. I think I'd only read this again if I was rereading The High Republic. - July 21, 2023
"I'm like... just a big huge ball of attachments" she moaned
"I'm attached to being alive"
This is sadly one of my least favourite High Republic books. There are some aspects I like but it just feels like it meanders a lot of the time. Ram is a great addition though, love that lil guy and his mechanic jedi vibe.
My main issue here is the Drengir, it felt like here they took the aspects of them that didn't work in Into the Dark and made that the only part of them. (more understandable since it is a middle grade book to be fair) The crossover with the High Republic Adventures characters is nice since that's a fun series, but not a book I ever really want to come back to and can easily be skipped over.
Ram just wants to be left alone in his comfort zone fixing things with his Bonbrak friends. The discovery of a sabotaged comms tower and a Nihil plot take him on an adventure he would not have chosen.
This was more fun than I expected it to be. It's a middle school book, which comes with a certain bias on my part. I expected like Hardy Boys or other books I enjoyed during those years that I would have a light, fun read that wouldn't stick with me long. Ram and his friends sucked me in and I found I became invested in this story. It fits right in with the adult novel The Rising Storm, which was a fantastic story, as well. I would say these two stories belong to each other. You can read either without the other and have an enjoyable time, but the two together paint a bigger picture.
