Rafael, king of the wererats, must fight to the death to defend his crown. He wants Anita Blake, one of his closest allies, with him as he faces an opponent unlike any he’s faced before. He will ask Anita to risk everything to be at his side.... But some of the wererats fear that Rafael depends too much on Anita and her ties to the vampires. They believe that there is only room in America for one supernatural king, and Rafael will turn them into nothing more than food for the bloodsuckers. Among his enemies, a new challenger has arisen who is younger, hungrier, and has dark secrets that could destroy both the wererats and the vampires. Rafael will go into the magical heart of his people to find the power and violence that he needs to save them all, or die trying.

It was okay, I skipped sections because I don't care about all the lengthy explanations or therapy talk. The ending was a little to anti climatic.
This book is great, it follows the same general pattern as all of Laurell K. Hamiltons books. However this book only got 3 stars because the whole series is starting to feel like its a lot more about the sex. and i personally don't like that as much.
Otherwise a great book. lots of twists and turns and excitement
This is THE BEST Anita Blake book so far. Hamilton just has this way with words to make it so horrific yet so emotional. As I got towards the final chapters I just had this urge to finish it as quickly as I could to find out what happened to Anita and her lovers. I can't WAIT to read Blood Noir!
As most of the other Anita Blake novels, Narcissus in Chains was both gripping and action-filled. Anita's character development continues to build and strengthen the reader's connection to not just the main character but also the supporting characters as well. I also loved the new addition of Micah and his pard.
I continue to enjoy the overarching theme that the monsters are not always the literal monsters and that the preternatural can hold more love and acceptance than normal circumstances would permit. Overall I greatly enjoyed this book
