Commissioner Kluftinger's idyllic winter weekend getaway with his wife and friends is shattered when a hotel guest is found to have been murdered during the night's severe snow storm. Inspite of local legends of evil spirits walking about killing people on just such stormy winter nights, the snowbound Commissioner and his friend, Dr. Langhammer, proceed to investigate the murder as best they can.
