I just finished Reasonable Adults by Robin Lefler and here are my thoughts.
Kate Rigsby is at rock bottom. After finding her boyfriend cheating on her and using social media to oust him for his crimes, Kate gets fired from her marketing job. Realizing she needs a hard reset she accepts a temporary contract for a swanky off the grid retreat. Problem is, the place isn't what the brochure promised.
Trying to bring this dated place into a profitable business is a fool's errand but Kate has nothing better to do. Trying to bring the kind of clients it needs is proving to be even harder than she imagined and with the world's worst boss gunning for her, the whole thing is an uphill battle of wits.
I was expecting this cute, rom com, christmassy hallmark book. It's none of those things. I love chick lit and this book didn't live up to the chick lit genre for me. That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. The concept was decent and I like the characters but it fell a little flat with the tone and pace. It needed more laughs.
I enjoyed the cute little romance but it didn't seem as interesting as it really should have been. I loved the retreat though. It was very descriptive and I felt like I was actually here. That for me, was the hero of the book. I think the storyline with the boss from hell was the best part and I can see what the author was trying to do with the Chaz storyline but that missed its mark as well. There was an incident and it was never remedied which didn't sit well with me. The author allowed Chaz to bully and he groped Kate (TW) and he just got away with it.
I can see some real talent in the writing and I expect to see some great books from this author in the near future.
