Revenge

This is legit the third book I have read in a row that has the hero using the heroine to get back at her father. I think that means this is officially an overused trope. (lol) But hey, no revenge porn in this one, so thank god for that...

Christine Besze is a new (to me) author, and I found her writing to be enjoyable. This book was relatively short (@ two hours) so it moved along at a good clip. The plot itself was engaging (if maybe a little underdeveloped and not terribly original). I also wasn't a fan of the dead wife and unborn child (not a spoiler as you find that out at the very beginning of the book) being the sole reason for the revenge. I am not usually bothered by dead exes, but when the entire premise of a book is based on the hero's grieving and anger over their deaths, it makes it hard not to feel like the heroine is second best.

Both the main characters were likable (mostly). Asher (not a manwhore) was a huge asshole for the first half of this book. Or maybe I am just burnt out on the whole “hero treats the heroine like sh!t because of something a family member did” scenario. (lol) He got better later on in the book, so at least there was that. Charlee (not a virgin...I gave this one an extra half star just for that! lol) was a likable heroine. She put up a good fight. Stood up to Asher and his brothers. I liked her. Speaking of Asher's brother's...I loved both of them and hope they get books of their own. There was no OW or OM drama, and the book wrapped up in a satisfying (if a little rushed) happily ever after

So yea, a little of a mixed bag, but overall this was an enjoyable read.
