I just finished Reykjavík: A Crime Story by Ragnar Jónasson and Katrín Jakobsdóttir and here are my thoughts.
1956 is a sore point in the career of police officer Kristján Kristjánsson, the missing case of Lara came to a screeching halt when his superiors told him to stop asking questions.

30 years later it falls to a journalist, Valur Robbertsson to begin his investigation into Lara's disappearance. The more he digs, the more it becomes apparent that someone doesn't want this missing case to be solved.

I will start with the writing, it was good. There was real promise in between the pages of this nordic noir book. Biggest problem for me? The pace was super sonic snail but steady and I needed a bit more frenzy in my thrillers but there were some really clever twists in the book I didn't see coming which helped keep me engaged.

I wasn't a fan of the evolving POV changes the book has adopted but I can see why the author did it. It just wasn't what I wanted from this book. The ending came to fruition thanks to Sunna, Valur's sister and that irked me a bit. It was a bit of a stretch for me I guess.

Having said that I really did like the book and I definitely would read more from the author. The descriptive prose was wonderful and I really was invested in finding out what happened to Lara.

If you like a slow burn thriller with a twist of a whodunnit.... This book is for you!

Out now!

3.5 stars.
