The war everyone thought was over is just beginning. Kira Forrest is a survivor. She’s risen above the pain of her beginnings to become a war hero only to leave it all behind in the pursuit of a simple life. Now a salvager, she makes a living sifting through the wreckage of dead alien ships from a war that nearly brought humanity to its knees. After her ship takes damage, she’s forced to re-route to a space station where her past and present collide with dangerous consequences. Kira’s existence holds the key to a faltering peace treaty with the Tuann—a technologically advanced alien race who dislikes and distrusts all humans. Winning her freedom should be easy, but a powerful and relentless Tuann warrior stands in her way. Deceiving him seems impossible, especially when he strays dangerously close to secrets she struggles to hide. Can Kira reconcile the pain of her past with the possibilities of her future? The fate of two races depends on her success.

How have I not read any of T.A white books before? I've been missing out BIG time. I devoured this series and then went on to her webpage and got hooked on "the broken land" series.
This author has quickly become one of my favorites, not only is her writing ritch, easy to follow and well balanced; but the characters are well developed, the world description is amazing and the story is sooooooooooo good.
I haven't put an all nighter in a while, but I just coudn't put it down.
The review sandy williams gave to the series expresses exactly how I felt
You know those times were you read book after book after book, but nothing really resonates you. You want to find a treasure, something new that the whole world hasn't already read, but you start to think the book you're looking for doesn't exist.
It exists! It's this book!
I LOVED it! It's a great sci-fi read with a touch of fantasy/magic and the slowest slow burn romance
The first half was quite boring, I was considering giving up on the book but it did get better in the second half.
I enjoyed the plot in the second half, as the Kira's powers and alien heritage are revealed and there's a little bit of politics sprinkled between the different alien races / alliances, etc. However I'm getting a bit tired of reading about yet another sassy/witty/reckless main character with a dark past.
I'll give props that the although there is the potential of a romance (with an overbearing dude that wont take no for an answer but that's ok because he's super attractive) Kira is staying away from it because she knows it's a bad idea. I took a look at the second book's reviews and it looks like the romance ends up progressing though, so bleh.
3.5 stars - enjoyable to read, but not enjoyable enough to read the second book, or to recommend it to anyone else.

I found this so hard to get into that I would read a page and realize I had no idea what happened because my brain wandered while I was reading. DNF at 70% because I can't do it anymore. I don't care about the characters or the story. The premise sounded interesting and the world building was intriguing but the book needed another 3 rounds of editing.
