“The system is broken”. That applies to so much nowadays. Trouble is, when we're talking about something as crucial as education, it's not so easy to undo the harm. And it becomes less so with every graduating class.

This is a powerful book. Immensely discouraging, but more thought-inducing than despair-provoking. Jackson offers an inside perspective on crushed hopes and goals. I know, I know: author's perspective, grain of salt and all that. But it rings true; feels honest. Jackson doesn't come off as bitter or vindictive, just sad over being unable to continue doing the teaching job he so wanted to do.

If you think our kids are being shortchanged, you need to read this.
