A new series from New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore! This book brings two familiar characters into the limelight for the first time! Jarlaxle, a dark elf assassin, and Artemis Entreri, a human assassin, work together and against each other in Calimport. Their conflict is intensified by the influence of the Crystal Shard, a malevolent artifact that has been raousing trouble in the Forgotten Realms world since its introduction in The Crystal Shard.

I actually read this as part of the [b:Paths of Darkness Collector's Edition 62482 Paths of Darkness Collector's Edition (Forgotten Realms Paths of Darkness, #1-4) R.A. Salvatore http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1312035734s/62482.jpg 64658] many years ago. And I totally forgot about it until I started reading this book. I guess I got a little duped by WotC producing books 2 and 3 based off another book from an existing series. Oh well.I did enjoy re-reading it. As I read, yea, I started remembering the details. The book focuses mainly on Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle, as well as Jarlaxle's band of mercenaries, and the events surrounding their possession of the Crystal Shard. If you found the anti-heroes interesting, you'll find things to love in this book. Cadderly and his companions show up in this book as well, so it's rather nice to read about them again after [b:The Cleric Quintet 66675 The Cleric Quintet Collector's Edition (Forgotten Realms The Cleric Quintet, #1-5) R.A. Salvatore http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1320533016s/66675.jpg 64654].Overall I found the character development of Artemis and Jarlaxle to be interesting build-up for the upcoming books so I'm looking forward to them, even though the plot lines in this particular book wasn't very memorable.
