The irresistible first book in the gripping Shatter Me series, now featuring gorgeous jacket art to match the rest of the series, and including the Destroy Me novella! One touch is all it takes. One touch, and Juliette Ferrars can leave a fully grown man gasping for air. One touch, and she can kill. No one knows why Juliette has such incredible power. It feels like a curse, a burden that one person alone could never bear. But The Reestablishment sees it as a gift, sees her as an opportunity. An opportunity for a deadly weapon. Juliette has never fought for herself before. But when she’s reunited with the one person who ever cared about her, she finds a strength she never knew she had. The jacket of this new hardcover edition matches the beautiful artwork of the paperback edition. It also includes the Destroy Me novella, which is told from Warner’s point of view, and a brand-new author’s note. Perfect for fans who have followed the series from the beginning and craved a matching set of books, and for readers looking to check out the series before the highly anticipated release of Restore Me!

I am pretty sure I have read Shatter Me before but I was going to marathon the series since the last book just came out. I loved Shatter Me. Tahereh Mafi has become someone I have admired because of who she is personally but her writing is also breathtaking.
Let's talk about her writing for a second. I absolutely loved how she wrote and how it was like Juliette's diary with all the crossed out words and sayings. It makes it more realistic for the reader and you can see what Juliette is thinking at all times. Especially during the time she was locked up because this was a way for her to express herself and also to make sure she doesn't go insane.
Shatter Me is about a girl named Juliette that lives in a world where the world is somewhat ending. Food is sparse and lives aren't valued based on being a human being. Juliette has been inside an insane asylum for 264 days. She hasn't eaten, talked, or touched anyone during that time. That is because her touch is lethal and it can kill anyone instantly. That is why she is in there, because she killed a little boy with her touch. All her life though she has been an outcast and everyone was told not to interact with her.

When Juliette gets a new cellmate, Adam, things are starting to change. She is talking again and you get to see her mind tick as she tries to place where she knew him from. Eventually, she is broken out of the asylum with Adam and she finds out he is apparently a solider for a man named Warner. Warner wants Juliette to be his special weapon and torture people. I loved during this time where Adam and Juliette find that they like each other and have for years since he went to her old school.
Adam has been searching for Juliette since she disappeared. He has loved her and watched her from afar for years. It was very cute seeing Adam's barrier fall down once he is with Juliette. The reader can tell that he loves her for her. Plus, he can touch her! That has to mean something... there are no coincidences. The readers get to go on a journey with Juliette, Adam, James (Adams' brother), and Kenji. I really like Kenji's personality and I cannot wait to read more about him in Unravel Me.
Overall, this is a wonderful book and a quick read. You will want to know more about the characters and their stories. Unravel Me and Ignite Me are much longer so I am happy to dive into those hoping for more of a background on everything.
rereading and catching up in this series for the release of defy me on april 2nd!
i definitely think i liked this a lot more the second time reading it. i wanted to reread the first two books so i could read books 3-5 because i thought i didn't remember anything that happened but turns out i remembered EVERYTHING. it was interesting to go back and read scenes knowing more information than juliette did. i have 6 days to read the next 3 books so wish me luck!
