Beautiful art, badass woman protagonist, intriguing details - overall a fun and inventive read.
What to say about this graphic novel? I really enjoy fantasy that is populated with a range of fantastic creatures, the more bizarre, the better and Shutter has exactly that. It is a smorgasbord of talking animals, dinosaurs, mythical creatures, robots and more. In this fantastic world that seems to be our world, with the edition of these creatures, a retired female adventurer is caught up with her family's past, one she didn't know existed, forcing her to go back to her adventuring ways and discover the answers to the secrets that her dad left behind when he died. This is what raises this graphic novel above just being some cool fantasy world. Kate had the life we all wish we had, but left it behind for reasons that become apparent as the story progresses. She still has that bad ass attitude and the smarts that got her through all her previous adventures alive. I liked her a a lot and enjoyed the mounting intrigue as I got further into the story. Unique, mysterious and fantastical, Shutter was very much worth the read and I highly recommend it. I am looking forward to reading more soon.
