I went into this book expecting a well built viking-esque world and ended up disappointed with so many realism breaking situations.
Running water channels under houses? Stitching wounds with thread? Washing dishes with hot water? Rappel? Axes, swords, and perhaps armor are the only things that are vaguely reminiscent of Vikings in this book.
The author spent a good half of this book having the main character hating on the opposite clan (with a blood-feud that makes no sense. Why only engage in conflict every five years if they have such a strong dislike for each other?) to have her suddenly turn around with the power of love.
There is considerable graphic violence at times, attempting to reveal a savage exterior that contrasts sharply with the character's presumed realization of their shared identity. However, the buildup to said realization just isn't there.
To make matters worse, the ending felt rushed, resolving the climax in like 10 pages or so.
As another reader noted: this is just food drowned in hotsauce.
