In fifth-century Britain, nine years after the destruction of their home on the island of Shalott brings her to live with her father and brothers in the military encampments of Arthur's army, seventeen-year-old Elaine describes her changing perceptions of war and the people around her as she becomes increasingly involved in the bitter struggle against the invading Saxons.

I received this book as a gift from a wonderful friend who thought I would like it. She was very right! This was an absolutely amazing take on King Arthurs' beginning, and having such strong female characters was great! I really enjoyed how Elaine grew as a person and found her place within Arthurs court. As someone who has always loved myths and legands, I can happily say that this is now one of my favorite books!
