It started out so strong but didn't end well at all. Sad, I really wanted to like it. It has one of the best opening monologues I've ever run across in a book! The middle was exciting. I was surprised by how often it moved me to genuine emotion, but the ending was lackluster.
Decent book, entertaining, but felt it was a bit of a one trick pony. After the 10th sarcastic exploitation of a superhero cliche it gets old - how about some compelling story?
DNF - Page 50
Why?
Because it's told in present tense with alternating first person POVs - and after the last book I read, I cannot stomach the thought of another book told in this way.
And because the first three chapters are very info-dumpy - and I flipped ahead 100-150 pages and that shows no sign of changing.
And because of this:
I'm superhuman, one of the good guys. One of the chosen.
If that's not enough reason right there, tell me what is. (And, no, that's not out of the mouth of the villain, which would have made it so much more bearable, but from the mind of some above-it-all superhero.)
