I... Didn't like this. Look, I do remember enjoying this author's first book for what it was: fun. This book is not fun. The main (only?) pov character is so angry at everything that I hate being in her head. The side characters are supposed to be charming with their banter, but, really this is just a crew of terrible friends.

The world building is...needlessly over complicated - specifically the ‘maz'. No, we don't need an overview at the beginning that terraz is earth magic, nor do we need five different forms of maz mentioned in one sentence.

Okay, look, I'm just angry because that's how being in this mc's head makes me feel and because I'm tired of ‘closer than family' teams in ya coming off as though they borderline hate each other.

(Also, holy false advertising Batman. If you want a sci-fi heist, look elsewhere.)
