The affair of Kitiara Uth Matar and Tanis Half-Elven begins with a bit of violence.

They contend with an ettin that wants to make them a snack; a deposed leader who believes Kitiara is the cause of the ruler's troubles; a vindictive mage who seeks peculiar vengeance; and even Kit's old lover, not there to spark up another romance.
