I always have high expectations when it comes to a rock star romance and when I started reading this book my expectations rose even more because Kat was brilliant when she first met Nico. Even though there was a instant attraction between them, Kat stood up to Nico from the very first second and that was very refreshing.
Until 20-25% everything went quite well, Kat continued to surprise me with her irreverent manners, even though some of her thoughts were a little off character (or so I thought...) and Nico was keeping a mysterious vibe being a talented/tortured/artistic alpha hot male. And then it all started falling apart. The Kat we meet in the beginning of the book slowly disappears as she gets involved with Nico and Nico shows his true colors too with all his demands about Kat's trust. There was too much drama way too soon in their relationship and some of it seemed a little over the top (yes, I'm also referring to Avery).
Kat's girlfriends produced a few humorous moments as well as the band members, but there was just too much happening at the same time. I think the author exaggerated with the drama to keep the readers interested in the story and somehow that led to the feeling that the characters were acting out of character, Kat and Nico just seemed to bring out the worst in each other despite their sizzling chemistry. The author shared, at the end of the book, that she went through an emotional time in her life while she was writing this book and that, probably, made a difference in the main characters actions. Despite all of this, and the difficulty to rate it, I think this series has lots of potential so I'll probably take a chance with the second book which it's probably going to be about A.J. and Chloe.
