2.5/5 rounded up.
The Celestial Kingdom duology is a super fun retelling of a Chinese myth, but this collection of short stories that expands the duology didn't add much to a story that had finished.
If you adored the characters of the two books and want to learn more about the events before, between, and after those stories then you will love this. For me, it felt more like a fan service that dampened the impact of both novels.
Beautiful.
So happy to see closure of such beloved characters from the duology and the illustrations were so well made!
My only critique is that this is was way too short omg I WANT MORE
It was interesting to get back into this world and get to see these characters again. It also serves well as a closure to the story of Xingyin.
