The Admissions

I had great hopes, but despite some lovely moments, this book seemed mannered, both overwritten and underdeveloped at the same time. The satirical tics, like the insertion of vocabulary words, took me out of the story and reminded me all too often that I didn't love the author's word choices. Angela's denouement at the end was great, but so much of this book is the windup, the suspense of how all these situations will resolve themselves, that the end seems rushed and a little too neat. I wanted to love it; instead I'm wondering if I should have given it two stars.
