This is one of those books with such good representation and the potential to be all that, but when it came to the world-building, characters, and entire plot, I just did not find much engagement in it at all. The wb was close to nonexistent and the writing felt too droll to get through, so dnf at around 45%. argh, and i was low-key excited for this one due to the killer rep and sweet cover.
A defiant scream into the universe; a refusal to become only pain, bodies without self; poetry born of love and death and comic spite. Hope is so hard to find in this bloodied, fragile existence, but it's there, beating at the bruises and concrete that could never bury us. Whispers turning to cries in defiance of anyone arrogant enough to think they get to choose when we die.
Love the way it is written, interesting and engaging characters, can be a bit hard to follow at times. Overall very very enjoyable.
This was super fun! I LOVE a “one last job” type of story and this fits the bill. I also really appreciated how the book tackled things like love and abuse and identity.
