The Almost True Story of Ryan Fisher
The Almost True Story of Ryan Fisher
Strange. I'm perplexed as to how this is considered Christian fiction. Yes, the book is a satirical exploration of what may have happened if a non-believer decided to start a mega-church. (I found the satire to be far more in the vein of [a:Tom Perotta 15907 Tom Perrotta http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1204163131p2/15907.jpg] than [a:Kurt Vonnegut 2778055 Kurt Vonnegut Jr. http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1233193902p2/2778055.jpg]; we all know how I feel about both the former and the latter.) Does the fact that the story concerns a bunch of Christians automatically qualify the book as a piece of “Christian fiction”? Perhaps I'm dense, or perhaps it is a function of my agnostic-ish worldview, but I didn't realize that the book was categorized as such until about 100 pages in, when I flipped to the very last page of the book and discovered that the publisher specializes in printing Bibles and offers a daily scripture, devotional, and inspirational emailing list. Hmm.
