The Amber Monolith

I got to know of Numenera through a gaming article. Since I've liked Monte Cook's creations, I've decided to check it out. I found this short story on the website.

It's an interesting setting but I'm not so sure I like some science-fantasy, especially one with the premise is that the technology is so advanced compared to the current age such that technology is like magic. I sort of prefer actual magic.

But the short story itself does give you a sort of sneak peek into the setting, and I like the way it's presented (as a book studied by others). The story is a bit too short for me to appreciate the protagonist though, so as a story, for me, it's just ok. Of course, since it's purpose is to give you an idea of Numenera, I'd say it does it's purpose well.
