I just finished The Bitter Past by Bruce Borgos Book 1 of the Porter Beck series and here is my review.

Beck is the sheriff, doing a job that his father once held in the high desert of Nevada. Back from his time in the army and is relishing the quiet that comes with the job. That is, until one day, a retired FBI agent is found murdered. Tortured so brutally that it has Beck asking some pretty serious questions. Why does the whole thing seem to have something to do with a mystery dating back decades? To add more mystery to the whole case, an FBI agent turns up to help.

Turns out a Russian spy had infiltrated a nuclear testing site back in the 50s, a spy that somehow managed to disappear but holds all the knowledge of what happened on that deadly day.

I love Beck. Right from the very start he was the kind of person I would hang out with. Sharp mind and the way the whole story unfolded just kept the ‘gasps' coming!

The story was told from the POV of Beck and in the 50s by the spy. You get a full picture of what did happen that day and why things went the way they did. I loved it. I was glued. I am a huge fan of mystery thrillers and this one packed such a punch!!

I didn't see a lot of the twists and turns coming which is always a huge bonus! Figuring out who the spy was... that was easier but there was plenty going on to keep any thriller lover on their toes.

I'm so ready for the next installment!
