A great book. I have read the comic version from the Illustrated Classics earlier, but reading the original book feels more complete somehow. It was a short book, too and that made it so much easier. The journey of Buck from being a sheltered and pampered house dog to a wild, killer leader of the wolf pack is both sad and empowering at the same time. The author manages to turn a tale of true tragedy and suffering into one of endurance and survival. Highly recommend!
Book Review - The Call of the Wild by Jack London - this is a classic children's book. I read it as a child, probably 25 or more years ago. But the story line was still clear in my head. Buck, a dog that was stolen from his master in California, is taken to the Alaskan Klondike as a dog sled dog. Buck has good masters and bad, but it is the call to return to the wild that is the real theme of the book.

Brutal book! This was supposed to be read when I was in grade school. I'm not sure I could have handled the brutality and the violence against animals, even by other animals. How was this part of our reading when we were younger. I was drawn to read it because of the movie that came out recently (2019 or 2020) based on this book. I wanted to read the book before seeing the movie. Not sure how that all plays out. I'll have to watch it on my own before having anyone else in the family see it (sensitive).
