This is a book I've given up before but picked it up again as my book club decided to read this. Initially I've given up on it because of the intensity in the beginning of the book, the difficulty of listening to author's achievements and worst of all, a quote of someone swearing! It was shocking to say the least but let me say this...
The author is extremely honest, brutally if I may say so - with his own shortcomings and sins including what I mentioned above.
If you've read even a couple of books on habits, especially from a Christian perspective, you may not find a ton of new things here. Still, there are a few things that may help you or give you a different idea of doing things or so. It surely could have been said in fewer words so I'd suggest you actually reading the “contents” and decide if it is worth your time.
It's worth mentioning that I've read the book for the practicality of it and not the theology of it which may be lacking in some places.
Also, if you go on his website - he suggests you do, you may also see a summary of the book. I think that has it all.
Do I regret reading the book? Not really but I would not read again. What I'd do instead is going on The Common Rule website and have my mind refreshed on a habits.
I'd give it a 3.5 stars if there was no foul language in it.
This is an awesome book. It contains a good set of rules for the Christian to live by in modern life, while not becoming too legalistic. Lots of things to think through and think about. I hope to implement these habits into my own personal life; I can't think of a single one out of the eight listed that I don't think is good.
