Another day, another Devney Perry book. I decided to start the Jamison Valley series and I am just obsessed with these watercolor covers! I must now own them all
Devney Perry does small town romance with light suspense really well. Her writing has only gotten better which might be why I didn't enjoy this debut novel as much as I love her later releases.
I did enjoy reading it. It skipped over some events that I thought would have been interesting to see in favor of focusing on the relationship building between the two main characters. It has a dual point of view but the majority comes from Gigi's perspective.
Overall I think my issue was that I didn't really like Jess. I usually love a protective, alpha male love interest but in this case it really felt like there wasn't much give and take. He talks over her, makes decisions without her, and when she brings up things that bother her he sort of just tells her to deal with it. I expected at least a little compromise from his end.
I'd still recommend reading this as I'm interested to see where the series goes but if you've started with more recent releases keep in mind that this was an early work.
Not often you see a cover of a romance novel without a half naked man or woman on it! This is a pretty cover. It's a great representation of the story. It has great composition. Interesting typography and makes great use of graphics.
I enjoyed this one. It was a super sweet read that had a KA vibe to it. It was well-written and nicely paced. It had some hot sex scenes. It had a bit of mystery (to be honest, I knew who the baddie was from the MINUTE the person was introduced...but no matter.) Some interesting side characters (not crazy about that Felicity chick though and it looks like she may be paired with Silas.) It had an adorable kid and two (relatively) likable main characters. The hero was a huge ass at the beginning, but he redeemed himself fairly quickly. The heroine, on the other hand, annoyed me a bit for most of the book with her constant he is forcing me to do shit speel. The garage thing I understood. The football game tantrum...not so much. Those were just minor things in the grand scheme of things. Two thumbs up from yours truly.
