The Enemy (The Enemy #1)

The Enemy (The Enemy #1)

I know I swore off zombie books two years ago, but I've had a ton of kids recommend this series to me, so I thought I would give it a try. Action packed is an understatement. I liked how complex the characters were, even with so many of them, Higson makes each one have multiple dimensions to their characters. Well done.

I'm adding this to my list for reluctant readers because I think the appeal is here for kids who may struggle to read. Also, the chapter switch off with the cliffhangers is enough to keep anyone blazing through the pages.

One other note: Higson is very careful to not point out anyone's ethnicity or race in the story. Because of this, I, as a reader, was allowed to picture the kids how I wanted to, and in my mind it is a very diverse bunch. Just as the children of London are now.
