The Glimpses of the Moon

so you'd be pretty hard-pressed to convince me that nick and susy are in love, but this isn't a romance book, and thus i shouldn't be really focused on that aspect

probably the most enjoyable wharton i've read so far, in that i actually laughed out loud and enjoyed the social commentary that this book makes. we all crave to be rich and living in luxury, but people who already have that life take all the good they've been blessed with for granted while the rest of us continue to dream about achieving that lifestyle. nick and susy, poor and hopeful, make this dumb pact in the hopes that they can marry into the lifestyle, even though they got married out of love. yeah, it doesn't really make sense to me either.

but it moved the plot along and revealed some pretty hilarious and dubious characters, so i can't complain much. also, poor nelson. first of all, his name's nelson.
