I know better than to attempt literary fiction when I'm coming out of a summer of reading much lighter works. Okay. I've been reading horror novels. Whatever. But I read [b:The Man Who Shot Out My Eye Is Dead 32979408 The Man Who Shot Out My Eye Is Dead Chanelle Benz https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png 50441209] and LOVED it! The Gone Dead...I struggled. The chapters are like little snapshots into the world of Billie's family. There are alternating narrators, but we are with Billie for the most part. I just lost focus with it somewhere around the middle. I'm not going to lie. I forced myself to finish it. It's possible I just wasn't ready for fiction that was going to make me think. Then again, maybe it wasn't clear what I was supposed to be really thinking about? Lost Billie in modern day? Little lost Billie as a baby? Her father's death? The state of the Delta now? Then? Academics who have quit smoking? Just kidding on the last one. I really liked that character. Obviously I cared enough about the story to finish it, but I predict I will not retain of it.
