I love Nicholas Sparks books but this one doesn't compare to The Notebook or A walk to remember. He writes in his Author's Note that he was trying something new, something with “love and danger” and something with a dog. This book includes a Great Dane named “Singer” that you will end up falling in love with. He has such a unique character that Julie talks to him like he's human. Julie's husband Jim asked someone to send the Great Dane puppy to her on Christmas eve with a letter he wrote knowing he might have died from cancer by then. The letter said that he didn't want her to be alone and that he wanted her to find someone that would make her happy. He also said that he would always be watching over her and I think that is where Singer came in.
