An excellent and highly detailed account of the history of the discovery, measurement and searches for the route to find the highest mountain in the world. The book culminates with the 1921 expedition – which is the point when most, if not all, other books about the mountain begins. George Mallory was a part of that expedition, becoming the first European – quite possibly, the first human being – to ever set foot on the great Qomolungma, “Goddess Mother of the World”, itself.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Love the cover on this one!
Prior to reading this book, my knowledge of the early explorers of Mt. Everest was limited. After reading this book, I feel like I have climbed mountains along with these “characters”. This author did such an amazing job of making the history of Everest and its early explorers come alive. I was engaged throughout and often couldn't wait to pick up the book and dive back into the story. The only disappointment for me was that there were no photos in my review copy. I assume there will be in the final copy, just a bit of a bummer for us ARC readers.
