What if your new colleague is the one person who leaves you speechless? Harper Jenkins has a way with words. As Celebrity Editor at a glossy magazine, she knows exactly how to get tight-lipped Hollywood stars talking, landing her exclusive stories and a great reputation. There's only one person who leaves her speechless - her arrogant colleague Ryan, who has been hired as the new Features Editor. Harper remembers Ryan from a decade ago, when they both interned together. Back then she had believed he was someone she could trust - but he betrayed her completely and they've never spoken since. Thrown together again in a busy newsroom, Harper and Ryan clash on everything - he can't bear how chaotic and messy she is while she declares him uptight and infuriating. But as the tension between them builds, who will get to have the last word? READERS LOVE HARPER AND RYAN . . . I received this book from NetGalley in return for my honest opinion.
I really really really liked this book. The enemies to loved is so nice, both characters are enjoyable. I love how Ryan is a soft and a bit insecure. This shows other men - who generally are the tough ones - that it is okay to be sensitive and have feelings. I really enjoyed that part of the book. Harper was great, I could not with her being that chaotic, but it gave her some character.
Really enjoyed the writing style. I even found myself reading during work hours a few times. Writing is quick and I flew trough the book.
I just finished The Last Word by Katy Birchall and here are my musings.
Harper is the very best at what she does but her boss undermines her journalistic endeavors which happens to be celebrity based.
When one of her best friends leaves the magazine, a spot opens up and her boss hires Ryan. A man she knew a long time ago. A man who betrayed her. She is furious and she cannot let go of what happened in their past.
The tension is intense and the bickering, comical. They couldn't be more different. Both of them like having the last word but as their stories overlap more and more, Harper cannot help feeling the intense attraction that is between them and after Ryan ends up on the same press trip she is on.... Things really heat up!
Just when things start to look cozy for these two enemies, impending layoffs are coming down the pipe and who will be left standing.
I have read some amazing romcoms lately so the bar was set so very high with my expectations. This book exceeded every single expectation I had and was the best page turner I have had the pleasure of reading this year!
Harper is the very best! I mean the very best! She is messy, disorganized and ditzy! Warm, caring with a natural ability of having things come easily to her. Ryan is the polar opposite. He works hard to achieve what she does but he is organized and a type A personality type. He is sexy as all heck and the exchanges between the two were electric.
I laughed, I shed a few tears and I had my heart warmed to solar flare temperatures. This book was a genius concoction of sweet, salty caramel goodness. I wish someone could wipe my brain so I could read it again for the first time.
