A great short story that is explicitly an homage to both [b:The War of the Worlds 8909 The War of the Worlds H.G. Wells https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1320391644s/8909.jpg 3194841] and [a:Robert Holdstock 72538 Robert Holdstock https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1374526882p2/72538.jpg]'s Mythago Wood (especially [b:Lavondyss 280716 Lavondyss (Mythago Wood, #2) Robert Holdstock https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1389643000s/280716.jpg 1839828] imho). Not that you need to be familiar with eithe to appreciate this wonderful little gem of creepiness. All you really need to know is on the cover – the creepy tone of the picture and the title itself. If you've read [b:The War of the Worlds 8909 The War of the Worlds H.G. Wells https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1320391644s/8909.jpg 3194841] or any of the Mythago Woods books, you'll just appreciate it ten times more.
