I don't know what to say about this book. I love the idea of the Mockingbirds; I think that the whole student jury thing is a great and very usable idea (it's also very flawed but we won't get into that).
I read a review before I started this novel which said that the characters didn't feel like characters, they felt like pawns in a story about justice. I understand that completely. At times, Alex's changing emotions enraged me and the constant ignorance of the authoritative figured was completely beyond me. I don't know what kind of message the author was trying to portray by saying that 99% of teachers just won't care about your problems, but it did not sit well with me at all.
Saying that, this book has a very important message and one that I feel very strongly about, but as a novel, I'm not entirely sure it worked.
