It is fitting my first post is a Mary Kay Andrews book. She is one of my favorite summer authors. Her books are sharp witted and lately, incorporate a mystery. They usually take place in a summery or beachy location, putting me in a mood to head to a beach. Her latest, The Newcomer, did not disappoint me.
I'm not going to write out a synopsis, anyone can get that from Goodreads. I also don't want to spoil it for anyone. So, hmmmm.
As I'm still packing up my apartment, I would pack some, then sit ,rest, and read. I finished it last night, right before going to bed. I had gone to Phoenix to put stuff in a storage unit and spent Monday night at my parent's house. My mom loves these books as well and we teased each other about how far we got and taking reading breaks. My sister likes this author too and she's going to start it soon.
There was a mention of Pass-A-Grille in Florida. Mom and I read the 10 Beach Road series by Wendy Wax that takes place in Pass-A Grille. We thought that was a funny Easter egg, even though it was probably accidental.
With these book blogs, I'm not going to write a formatted essay or review. I like writing as a stream of consciousness. So I might be here, then go there. I'm thinking I might start making notes as I'm reading or listening to a book, so I can remember to write it here.
So, now that I've rambled, I'm going to recommend this book to you! It's a light read for the most part. It'll get you in the mood to be a beach bum or to find other beachy books to read this summer. The story and characters will keep you engaged. I know I couldn't put it down, in between packing something up.
