This is about a strong (and angry) woman taking a stand against a man who abuse women.
(As a side note: my personal complaint is that I don't like this version of (feminist) agenda when it's answered with "it takes a monster to defeat a monster".)
This is also about the love between Manila and Priya. And it's about the dark magic of the fire of mothers and the yaksa. And more than anything it's sooo much dialogue between disagreeing people not really getting anywhere.
The pacing is bad and I had to speedread the final 40% to get through it. I really loved the first book, though, but tbh I'm not sure I'll complete the trilogy.
Once again, another beautifully written book by Tasha Suri with vibrant world building and rich characters. Suri continued on her trajectory of writing one of the most captivating, heart-warming, and gut-wrenching stories I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I wish I could come up with smarter words to describe this sequel but having just finished the book, my head is screaming “AAHHHHHHH GIVE ME THE NEXT BOOK!!” while my heart sits in the corner and cries.
This was one of my most anticipated books of 2022 and I'm so glad I finally got around to reading it! I've been in a fantasy slump for about a year but falling back into this world felt natural. Tasha Suri writes a specific type of fantasy that feels easy to get into without feeling confused of all the politics, charcters, and magic system. The romance in this series grips me and leaves me thinking about them even while I'm not reading. And the quotes from this!!! Absolutely incredible! Only lowered a star rating because I felt like I was pushing myself to read the last 100 pages.
