Honestly this was a DNF. I didn't even make it out of the first chapter. The author is very repetitive and the writing is lackluster. I quit as soon as the dialog started. In my head, I was hearing cheesy dialog from an old sitcom with the canned laugh track in the background.

Here's a paraphrased snippet of dialog:

Mom: Son, I don't mind that you want to leave my business to start your own. You'll need it for when you get married.

Son: Mom, I love it when you slip that marriage thing into our conversation. But you know I'm never getting married.

End scene...

I think the fact that in the one chapter, while introducing the characters, it was mentioned more than once that dad died in a car accident, mom owned a real estate agency, and son was starting his own real estate investment (buy, reno, sell) company... It felt like overkill.

I rarely read reviews, but I stopped partway through the chapter to see if it was just me. It wasn't. I hadn't even gotten to the “heroine” of the story, but from the other reviews, I should be thankful.

I don't DNF books very often, but this wasn't working for me in any way and I have too many books to read to continue on...
