I'm really glad I read this in preparation of Carina's arrival (aside: COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED): it's been so long since I've had a dog and I want to be sure I'm the best dog mom I can be, and that we don't run into any behavioral issues. This book is a great overview explaining why dogs act the way we do (vs the anthropomorphic way we'd expect), and simple training tricks to meet them where they are. Definitely recommend this for current/future dog owners!
Patricia McConnell does a wonderful job highlighting the different way that dogs perceive the world, and how we may communicate more effectively with them. Whether you are a first time dog owner looking to better understand your pup, or a seasoned owner with three dogs at home- I'm sure you will take something of value away from this book.
DNF. After a 40 minute (audiobook) introduction, I knew book would be way too long. I was right after the few few characters, I quit. After hearing for the 6th time that to get your dog to come to you don't walk toward them but turn away from them and lean away from dog. Seriously 6 times.
