The pigman by Paul Zindel

Two high school sophomores from unhappy homes form a close friendship with a lonely old man with a terrible secret.

Mr. Pignati is old and alone. John and Lorraine prank call Mr. Pignati which leads, very gradually, to a friendship between the two teens and the old man. It's a moving story of a friendship between people of widely different ages as well as the consequences of being irresponsible and careless.

My husband and I listened to this audiobook. It's a 1001 Children's Book You Must Read.

Another Assigned Reading Novel...

I had read this before, but I couldn't remember it all that well. That doesn't seem very reassuring it terms of its quality, but I think it just did not connect with me as much back then. It's still not my fave classic YA novel, but I feel I'll remember it more now. That's something, right? 3/5
