I was contacted by the authors publicist and offered a free book in exchange for my honest review.
I finished this in October and I meant to post my review immediately but alas things happen and I am just now getting around to writing my review so hopefully I can remember enough to make sense.
When I read the synopsis for this book I was immediately intrigued by it. I mean a female pirate disguised as a man who just so happens to be a lesbian in a time period where that wasn't the norm. I definitely wanted to read it. Overall though I wasn't wowed by it and I just thought it was an ok read.
First off the lead character Quinn who is disguised as a male is a womanizer. Her being a womanizer isn't what bothered me though, it was how judgmental she was about the other pirates being womanizers. Yes she was nicer about it and treated the woman better then the other guys but that doesn't make it right in my opinion. Plus add the fact that none of them knew she was a female that just didn't sit right with me.
I had a hard time getting into this because of the language. I don't typically read pirate books so I didn't really know what I was getting myself into here. I kept getting pulled out of the story when the pirate's were talking which was pretty much the entire book so that was a huge struggle for me.
I also felt like things get resolved so easily. I mean some people find out Quinn's secret and they were accepting of it. I don't think I would have been so accepting of it.
Overall I thought it was an ok read. It touches on a variety of topics such as friendship, family, and love. While I did enjoy this I don't think I will continue with the series because I can't stand the language but I know there are people out there who will love this.
